California Highway Patrol Joins with HireVeterans.com to Employ U.S. Veterans

by Lynn Earle PPS, at HireVeterans.com

On August 14, 1929, the California Highway Patrol was created through an act of the Legislature. The new law gave statewide authority to the Highway Patrol to enforce traffic laws on county and State highways - a responsibility which remains in effect today, along with many additional functions undreamed of in 1929.

The primary mission of the California Highway Patrol is "the management and regulation of traffic to achieve safe, lawful, and efficient use of the highway transportation system." As a major statewide law enforcement agency, the secondary mission of the Department is to assist in emergencies exceeding local capabilities. The CHP also provides disaster and lifesaving assistance.

During its first ten years, the Patrol successfully grew into a highly respected, effective traffic safety force of 730 uniformed personnel. After World War II, the legislature decided to consolidate and reorganize the Patrol's enforcement and administrative responsibilities. In October 1947, the Department of the California Highway Patrol was established and the position of commissioner was created to head the new Department.

The span of enforcement responsibility has expanded dramatically and the CHP has continued to grow and change. Today's responsibilities include truck and bus inspections, air operations (both airplanes and helicopters) and vehicle theft investigation and prevention. The 1995 merger with the California State Police also increased the areas of responsibility to include protection of state property and employees, the Governor and other dignitaries.

In addition to its enforcement responsibilities, the Department has taken a leadership role in educating the public concerning driver safety issues. The CHP has received state and national recognition for its innovative public awareness campaigns promoting use of safety belts, a Designated Driver when drinking, securing small children in safety seats and wearing motorcycle and bicycle helmets.

CHP seeks to hire US Veterans; as a part of their military service, US Veterans have received a high level of training in their field and they have transferable job skills and work experience valued by employers. Their physical fitness, marksmanship skills, and cool headedness under pressure are enormous assets. US Veterans also possess a high level of discipline which is a priceless quality necessary in law enforcement.

MGM Grand Jobs for U.S. Military Veterans Las VegasGet to Know Employers Who Support Our U.S. Veterans

By Randy Miller, HireVeterans.com

MGM Grand, the largest hotelier/casino in Nevada normally does not like to make a big deal about things like this, but they were named Best Place to Work in Southern Nevada in 2005 and 2006. And now they are reaching out to our U.S. Veterans community to add diversity and quality to their growing success.

Every year, the Southern Nevada Human Resources Association names one company in Las Vegas the Best Place to Work. MGM Grand won the coveted “Best Place to Work Award” in 2005 AND 2006. They said it was because of our outstanding employee programs, and the way MGM Grand management and employess treat each other. They also mentioned our commitment to community, quality, and continuous growth. And there was something in there about all the training and development opportunities on offer.

Now MGM Grand wouldn’t want to brag but let them say this one little thing. "When you work with MGM Grand, you enjoy the prestige of working with a brand that’s synonymous with quality. MGM Grand is host to A-list concerts, events, conventions, shows and restaurants. It’s home to The Mansion, which welcomes the world’s highest-rollers. And it’s the only place in America with 49 AAA Diamonds under one roof, including seven AAA Four Diamond and one Five diamond-rated restaurants!"

MGM Grand has welcomed the biggest names in entertainment and hospitality, including Madonna, David Copperfield, the Rolling Stones, U2, Coldplay, and Wolfgang Puck. MGM Grand is associated with major celebrities and chefs like Joel Robuchon – and who knows, one day it could be associated with you, too.

In fact, here’s an idea. You know you’re really enjoying work when it doesn’t actually feel like working, right? That’s what MGM Grand thinks. So they have created a workplace that’s always exciting and filled with action.

MGM Grand regularly organizes employee events where you’re given an opportunity to showcase your talents. They host American Idol-style talent shows, there’s a battle of employee bands, you can show off your cooking skills at the Culinary Kitchen Cup Challenge, prove your worth inventing cocktails at the Maximum Mixologist competition, or show off your commitment to cleanliness at the Housekeeping Olympics.

The world works at MGM Grand – and that diversity means we have more reasons to celebrate our team, through competitions or with cultural, holiday and special event parties year-round!

At MGM Grand, they take training seriously- so much so that their University was ranked #29 among the nation’s Top 100 Corporate Universities in 2006. That’s right, another award won for outstanding employee programs!

MGM Grand offer comprehensive training programs that turn jobs into ongoing adventures in learning. Classes are free and allow you to learn everything from computers to healthy eating habits, train to become a future leader, or advance in the organization by participating in the REACH, MAP, Hospitality Internship Program or Leadership Institute.

At MGM Grand, they are all about setting your sights higher.

Want to keep moving upward and onward? This is the place for you! In 2005, MGM Grand transferred or promoted 1,188 employees into new jobs at MGM Grand. If you’re worried when you’re working, MGM Grand is not doing something right (and it takes a big “Best Of” winner to admit it!) That’s why they offer benefits that a lot of other employers don’t. So stop worrying.

If you’re not healthy, MGM Grand is not healthy. So they offer a range of industry-best health and 401 (k) plans.

How about insurance? MGM Grand offers life insurance and short and long-term disability insurance, not to mention pet insurance. Yep, they even care about your best friends!

The MGM Grand has completely invented themselves to become the most talked about property in Las Vegas – and they would love to have U.S. Veterans apply and join the team with them as they enter the exciting years ahead. Grocery Operation Training

Vons provides its employees with the knowledge and skills to perform their best in any position they accept or are promoted into. The company provides entry-level training using multi-media, mentors, and on-the-job learning in customer service, diversity, food safety, workplace safety, and a host of other topics and skills related to each position.
Employee Development
Vons believes that its employees are its best asset. Employees are provided with the knowledge, skills, and tools to be the leading retailer in our markets. Whether it's providing world-class customer service, offering exceptional products at a competitive price, or learning the latest in merchandising and display, the company's training programs provide the individual with a solid foundation to achieve their best.

Vons, The History

Downtown Los Angeles was essentially a small town when Charles Von der Ahe opened his 20-foot wide Groceteria on the corner of 7th and Figueroa in 1906 with $1200 in savings. It was a neighborhood store that catered to the needs of local families, where Von der Ahe pioneered "cash and carry" as an alternative to "charge and Delivery". His formula proved so successful that by 1928 Vons had expanded to 87 stores. Charles Von der Ahe sold his chain the following year, but four years later, despite the Depression, two of his sons, Ted and Wil, re-started Vons. Its growth and innovation over the next 70 years was non-stop. In 1948 the brothers opened their most ambitious store at the corner of Santa Barbara and Crenshaw. Thanks to the introduction of pre-packaged perishables, they were able to offer some of the first self-service produce, meat and Deli departments. This milestone marked the advent of the first true supermarkets as we know them today. The most explosive growth occurred during the 1970's when Vons branched out to 159 stores with 16,000 employees, making it firmly the #1 grocery retailer in Southern California. Today the Vons operation, which includes Pavilions stores, is now a part of the Safeway family of companies. Vons stretches from San Diego to Fresno, from Clark County, Nevada to the Pacific. It's 325 stores serve millions of Southern Californians and Nevadans.

Keeping Up with the Neighborhood

The marketing area which Vons covers comprises some of the most affluent, forward thinking, culturally mixed communities in the U.S. Vons business strategy has always been to provide for the needs of these communities with the highest quality meat and produce at competitive prices. Equally important, Vons has been changing as Southern California changes. Capital spending insures a continuing pace of replacement stores and remodels.

Enhancing the Shopper Experience

Vons has introduced shoppers to full-service banks within its stores, one-hour photo centers, professional pharmacies, dry cleaners and customer service centers which offer copying and faxing. Vons has never forgotten its commitment to quality. Most stores now contain full-service Delis, scratch bakeries and complete floral departments. The company is particularly pleased to offer the Safeway SELECT line of premium quality products, encompassing over 1200 private label items.

Good Neighbor Policy

Vons has always taken its community responsibilities seriously. The company and its employees raise millions of dollars annually for their local Easter Seals Society. Employees are also able to earmark funds for specific charities through the Vons Foundation. The range of recipients has been broad, from teacher training to local food banks. It has always been Vons policy to support their communities at the local, personal level.

Environmental Leadership

Vons has a continuing history of environmental responsibility, starting with cardboard recycling in 1960. Our environmental policy has included replacing ozone-depleting CFC´s in our store refrigeration systems. In addition our customers have helped us recycle several million pounds of shopping bags. Even more remarkable than Von's community leadership and growth to one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America is that it has not come at the expense of M.B.Scagg's vision.

His strong sense of customer value that proved so innovative in American Falls in 1915, continues to work successfully in a new century.

Diversity, Like Ingredients, Makes A World of Difference

"Those of us who work at Safeway come from all walks of life. We have a team comprised of people from all races, religions and ethnic backgrounds. They bring to the workplace a variety of styles, abilities and skills. I am proud of our diversity. Without a diverse team, we could not make Safeway the best company in our industry." Steve Burd,Chairman, President and CEO

U.S. Veterans play an important role in strengthening diversity and making the Vons company even stronger.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Joins Forces with HireVeterans.com to reach out and Employ U.S. Military Veterans to Protect the United States of America

by Lynn Earle PPS, at HireVeterans.com

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). CBP combined the inspectional workforces and broad border authorities of U.S. Customs, U.S. Immigration, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and the entire U.S. Border Patrol.

CBP includes more than 41,000 employees to manage, control and protect the Nation's borders, at and between the official ports of entry. "U.S. Customs and Border Protection has accomplished a lot to secure our borders, but there is much more we are doing. We understand that as America's frontline, the security of a nation rests on our shoulders. We have learned the lessons of 9/11 and are working day and night to make America safer and more secure," stated Commissioner Robert C. Bonner.

CBP "Twin Goals" - Anti-Terrorism and Facilitating Legitimate Trade and Travel.

"For the first time in our nation's history, one agency has the lone responsibility of protecting our borders. As the single, unified border agency, CBP's mission is vitally important to the protection of America and the American people. CBP's priority mission is preventing terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the United States, while also facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel," continued Commissioner Bonner.

CBP uses multiple strategies and employs the latest in technology to accomplish its dual goals. CBP's initiatives are designed to protect the homeland from acts of terrorism, and reduce the vulnerability to the threat of terrorists through a multi-level inspection process.

"U.S. Customs and Border Protection can point to a myriad of accomplishments since 9/11 to better secure our Nation's borders. They are astonishing in scope and the speed with which we have implemented them. Our borders are more secure than they were on 9/11 -- keeping terrorists and their weapons out of our country is the most vital mission of any law enforcement agency - a mission we must succeed at," stated Commissioner Bonner.

CBP looks to hire the men and women of today's Armed Forces who possess impressive skills and credentials; with a work ethic that is commensurate within our world class mission of protection.

by Capt. Benjamin Jones

There is now doubt that hiring U.S. Veterans makes cents from many standpoints.....below, Veterans Today is proud to list the top 10 list.........so here we go:

1. Accelerated Learning Curve

Veterans have the proven ability to learn new skills and concepts. In addition, they can enter your workforce with identifiable and transferable skills, proven in real world situations. This background can enhance your organization's productivity.

2. Leadership

The military trains people to lead by example as well as through direction, delegation, motivation and inspiration. Veterans understand the practical ways to manage behaviors for results, even in the most trying circumstances. They also know the dynamics of leadership as part of both hierarchical and peer structures......

3. Teamwork

Veterans understand how genuine teamwork grows out of a responsibility to one's colleagues. Military duties involve a blend of individual and group productivity. They also necessitate a perception of how groups of all sizes relate to each other and an overarching objective.

4. Diversity and Inclusion in Action

Veterans have learned to work side by side with individuals regardless of diverse race, gender, geographic origin, ethnic background, religion and economic status as well as mental, physical and attitudinal capabilities. They have the sensitivity to cooperate with many different types of individuals.

5. Efficient performance under pressure

Veterans understand the rigors of tight schedules and limited resources. They have developed the capacity to know how to accomplish priorities on time, in spite of tremendous stress. They know the critical importance of staying with a task until it is done right.

9. Conscious of health and safety standards

Thanks to extensive training, veterans are aware of health and safety protocols both for themselves and the welfare of others. Individually, they represent a drug-free workforce that is cognizant of maintaining personal health and fitness. On a company level, their awareness and conscientiousness translate into protection of employees, property and materials.

Jobs for Military Veterans10. Triumph over adversity

Lynn Earle's Weekly Recruiting U.S. Veterans Journal

Awesome Week at HireVeterans.com! Best Ever! After a great weekend, I began my week contacting The Brinks Company for the second time. They have the friendliest receptionist in the world! She had me pumped for the rest of the week! However, I am still attempting to reach a human being in Brinks' Human Resources Department! Urgh! The dreaded computer voice mails and switchboards. No Problem.

I spent a few days calling L-3 Communications Companies. Phew! There sure are a lot of them! I am sure they are hiring veterans......I know I just had to tell and sell so that they learned all about us and how we can contribute. I did and they are now members, well that’s L-3 Communications SyColeman. I am so happy for them and our veterans. This is good……and it’s getting better.

Okay, so I speak with Susan, a very pleasant lady in HR at Comcept. She is interested in posting jobs with us. She asked me to call back next week. George, from KDI Precision Products returned my call specifically to thank us for the work we are doing for our US Veterans. What a great guy. He said as soon as they have jobs on offer, they will post them with us. Things are moving.

Catrina, a charming lady from Telemetry-East is not hiring but she took time out of her busy schedule to speak to me and asked for information on our services for future reference. Oh, I harassed Danny from IWI. What a character! He's a U.S. Veteran himself. He was very busy. It was fun speaking with him. I'm still on him like a tick on a dog!

It's been an exciting and super week. We've added Securiguard Inc., Maryland Correctional Services, US Customs & Border Protection, California Highway Patrol, and Leatherman Tool Group Inc. to our phenomenal list of military friendly employers. We are so proud to include them as members of HireVeterans.com. So I hope you folks reading this go to www.veteranstoday.com and check out the Press Releases. Heck, they are posted on this blog as well. More, go to our site at HireVeterans.com and check out all the jobs we have. LOOMIS FARGO opens it's Job Doors to U.S. Veterans

Get to Know Employers who Support Our Veterans

by Lynn Earle PPS, at HireVeterans.com

Loomis, Fargo & Co., a world class solution company for for banks, financial institutions, retail and other commercial enterprises is actively seeking to hire U.S. Veterans. (View Jobs)

The origins of Loomis, Fargo & Co. date back to 1852, to those exciting days when Pony Express riders helped build the American west, as well as the Alaska Gold Rush era, when armed mushers endured danger and hardship to provide safe transport into and out of the mines. The founding fathers of our predecessor companies met and tamed the challenges of their respective frontiers. You may be familiar with some of the famous names from our history: Buffalo Bill Cody, Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickok, Bret Harte and of course Lee Loomis, William Fargo and Henry Wells. We are very proud of our heritage, but we are even more excited about our present and future.

Today, Loomis is the U.S. leader in the cash handling services industry. Think of us as the nation’s largest integrated cash distribution network. Loomis operates an electronically linked service network of nearly 240 operating locations throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico, employs over 8,000 teammates and utilizes a fleet of approximately 3,000 armored and other vehicles to provide secure armored transport, automated teller machine (ATM) services, cash and transaction processing services for banks, other financial institutions, commercial, industrial and retail businesses.

Just as the pioneers who settled the American west and the Alaska frontier depended on us for secure, reliable transport, today’s business community counts on Loomis for comprehensive cash handling solutions. With a broad range of services, nationwide coverage and thoughtful application of technology, we offer opportunities to achieve savings and reduce risk by considering the full cash distribution system cycle rather than individual segments. For our customers, it is the seamless integration of cash processing, transportation, eBusiness innovation and management that creates exceptional value.

In May 2001, Loomis, Fargo & Co.’s position as a global leader in cash handling was solidified with its entry into the Securitas family. Securitas AB, headquartered in Sweden, is the world’s largest security firm, with holdings throughout North America and Europe. Loomis, Fargo & Co. currently operates independently as Securitas’ North American cash handling services Division. Together with Securitas’ European cash handling services division, our annual revenues exceed $1.5 billion.

What is it that separates Loomis, Fargo & Co. from the rest? What are our values? The answer may be discovered in the attitude of our team of over 8,000 people who care about doing things the right way.

The fact that we have such a team is no accident. Our hiring standards are the toughest in the industry. When we talk about hiring the best, there is a tangible process behind it - it isn’t just a cliché. It differentiates us. Once aboard, our new teammates receive training second to none in the industry. Much of the development of our training has been driven by frontline teammates who saw the need and took the initiative to push our training efforts forward, both formally and more informally in coaching roles. In those pivotal first few weeks with the Company, our new teammates begin to realize that they are part of something special and like the feeling of being part of a great team. They like working with pros. But what characterizes the work environment in which those veteran professionals take such pride?

It is an attitude symbolized by our Five Fundamentals:

• Treat People Right
• Do Business Right
• Bring Solutions to
• Customers
• Manage Risk Down
• Be the Best

Treating people right means showing respect for our teammates, our customers, our vendors and our community in all we do. Doing business right refers to our responsibility to maintain our business consistent with the highest standards of ethical behavior. Bringing solutions to customers requires us to think as business partners, listen, solve problems, anticipate needs, innovate and deliver on all promises we make. Managing risk down is the essential foundation of all we do encompassing cargo and property security, but above all recognizing that the safety of our teammates and those they touch is always our number one priority. Being the best is our collective commitment to deliver superior value as a basis for fair profitability and to lead the development of our industry.

Our values are described in a book entitled The Compass, A Guide to the Five Fundamentals of Loomis, Fargo & Co. Culture. Ask to see it when you visit your Loomis, Fargo & Co. branch or simply observe those values being lived every day by our 8,000 teammates.

In May 2001, Loomis, Fargo & Co.’s position as a global leader in cash handling was solidified with its entry into the Securitas family. Loomis, Fargo & Co. is wholly owned by Securitas AB and currently operates independently as the North American cash handling services unit within the Securitas Cash Handling Services Division.

Securitas, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, is a world leader in security solutions with operations in more than 20 countries. The company operates primarily in the United States and Europe which constitutes 75% of the world security market. Securitas is organized in five specialized divisions: Security Services USA, Security Services Europe, Security Systems Direct and Cash Handling Services.

Securitas has been listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange’s A-List since 1991 and included in the OMX Index – comprised of the 30 most traded stocks on the Exchange – since 2000.
